This is a 15-watt ultra violet lamp for killing bacteria. The ultra violet lamp should be replaced every 6 months. Even though the UV lamp will still be lit it looses strength after time and will not be as efficient in killing bacteria.
How The Ultra Violet Lamp Works
The ultra violet lamp is fitted in the middle of the UV chamber inside a quartz tube. Water passes through the UV chamber and surrounds the ultra violet lamp. The ultra violet lamp gives off strong ultra violet rays, which kill bacteria in the water. The water should be clear with no particles before going into the UV housing, as particles can cause a shadow preventing the ultra violet rays from reaching the bacteria to kill it.
If there is any sediment in the water we recommend a pre-filter (sediment filter) should be fitted before the ultra violet sterilisation system to ensure maximum efficiency.
